The Artist Journey

A story for every student.

At Rise, we see artistic development as a story told over time. We do not measure growth by speed, but by depth.

Our students make their way through the Artist Journey by progressing through a series of Scenes, gaining experience, skill, and responsibility along the way. Advancement through the Scenes does not depend solely on talent or roles performed. Instead, we consider the whole student — helping them grow in rehearsal habits, artistic development, receiving and applying feedback, and their contributions to the ensemble community.

Curious
Explorer

Explorers discover the foundations of theatre, including rehearsal expectations, theatre etiquette, and basic acting, voice, and movement skills. They develop body awareness, openness to learning, and listening skills.

2
Collaborative
Cast Member

Cast Members are embracing the belief that theatre is never a solo activity. They build trust with their peers as they arrive prepared, apply feedback with increased consistency, and begin encouraging their fellow cast members.

🎭
Act II
Craft
Students deepen their understanding of storytelling, character, performance technique, and creative interpretation. They begin taking ownership of their artistic growth.
3
Responsible
Storyteller

Storytellers begin recognizing that performance is about sharing meaning, not seeking attention. They take responsibility for communicating through theatre clearly and truthfully, understanding that the audience and the story depend on their preparation and commitment.

4
Ownership
Creative Artist

Creative Artists take active ownership of their craft and artistic development. They bring thoughtful interpretation to character work, self-correct without constant direction, maintain professionalism, and actively support younger or less experienced students.

Act III
Impact
Artists begin to recognize the impact their presence has on others. Their focus expands beyond their own role to the health of the ensemble and the growth of the people around them.
5
Influence
Culture Leader

Artists recognize the impact their presence has on others, and they seek the best in the people around them. They intentionally contribute to the growth of the ensemble, recognizing that people are looking to them for leadership.

6
Embodiment
Ambassador

Ambassadors demonstrate consistent artistic excellence, mentor younger performers naturally, handle success and disappointment with maturity, and carry themselves with confidence, humility, and respect. The values of the journey have become a part of who they are.

The process is the point.

The goal of the Artist Journey is not to rush through each scene, but to embrace it. As students learn to pursue and participate in collective growth, they discover the joy of strengthening not only themselves, but an entire community. At Rise, the most meaningful performance is watching who students become along the way.
